The pieces in this gallery employ a mixture of techniques e.g. painting, drawing, embroidery, felting etc. They also utilise a variety of mixed supplies e.g. paint, thread, canvases, wool, beads, knitting yarn etc. I find mixed media really interesting as you are only limited by your imagination. I find that once you get the courage to try something ‘a little left field’, the next time around it becomes easier to ‘try something’ different. If it doesn’t work as planned, it doesn’t work as planned and I move on to try the next ‘what if’.
Some of the pieces in this gallery are more from the ‘art journaling’ perspective and some are more from the ‘quilting/embroidery’ perspective. You can, off course, combine whatever techniques you are comfortable with within the one piece.
The piece on the left is essentially of bit of both. It is a 12 x 18 canvas utilising a variety of painting techniques with the edition of some machine embroidery along with some hand beading.
The ‘Crazy Quilt’ on the right shows a combination of machine embroidery and quilting.
