Pineapple
‘Pineapple’ is my newest Blackwork pattern. From a basic square, subdivided into smaller sections with simple straight lines, we can create an amazing array of designs. The possibilites are endless. All our traditional quilt blocks start off as a square which is then subdivided into smaller subdivisions. These smaller sections are cut from a variety of fabrics, sewn back together into square blocks which are then sew together to form the quilt top. Quilts worked from the same basic pattern can produce vastly different results based on the colour/design of fabrics and the placement and interaction of those fabrics with each other.
Part of my basic makeup is that I am very organised. This is probably the basis for my love of Cross Stitch and Blackwork embroidery. Basic geometric shapes have always intrigued me, not so much from a mathematical point of view but from the view point of the ‘design possiblities’ that they offer. When you think about it, so much of our modern world is based on geometric shapes. Our buildings, furniture, the basic grid of our roadworks, books, the ‘tables’ we use to organise information are all based on basic geometric shapes etc. You get the general idea 🙂 Ah, but I digress…..
OK, back on track and back to ‘Pineapple’…. 🙂 There are 6 ‘filler pattern’ in this design along with an additional pattern that I have added to the background. You may choose to not work the bakcground filler pattern. I have also included a ‘motif’ design in the half square triangles between the ‘pineapples’.
